Dental Veneers

Your smile is your biggest asset and having a perfect set of teeth adds so much value to that smile. If your teeth are not perfect, there is no need to despair because Smiles for Life Family Dentistry has a solution for you.

What Do Veneers Do?

Veneers are a great way to restore your natural smile and improve the shape of teeth that are damaged, misshapen or stained.

Essentially, veneers are thin, porcelain shells custom built to fit over the front of your existing teeth. They hide imperfections in your natural smile, like stains, gaps and chips. These wafer-thin shells are bonded to your teeth, providing a permanent solution and the smile you’ve always wanted. Veneers look completely natural and no one will be able to tell that you have them. Porcelain looks very much like tooth enamel having the same dazzling quality when it reflects the light.

Am I a Candidate for Veneers?

If you want that perfect, natural-looking smile, veneers might be right for you. However, you’ll want to consult with a member of our dental professional team to determine if you’re a good candidate. The application of veneers is irreversible. To apply them, a thin layer of tooth enamel must be removed to ensure a seamless fit. Your dentist will fit you with temporary veneers to ensure you’re comfortable with them, but it’s definitely something to consider before diving into the procedure.

The Benefits of Veneers

Veneers offer a wide variety of benefits. Here are some of the biggest advantages of getting veneers from Smiles for Life Family Dentistry.

A Beautiful, Natural Smile: When applied by a seasoned dentist at Smiles for Life Family Dentistry, porcelain veneers will look natural and beautiful.

Long-Lasting Results: Veneers can last for up to 20 years, making them a cost-effective, long-term solution for a beautiful smile.

Veneers Reinforce Your Natural Teeth: Since they are permanently bonded to your existing teeth, veneers reinforce and strengthen your tooth structure.

Replace Enamel: If the enamel of your teeth has started to get worn down, veneers can serve as a good substitute to protect your teeth and prevent sensitivity.

Quicker Procedure: The whole process is quicker than some others like getting crowns or caps because less preparation work is required for the teeth

What to Expect During Veneer Placement

Veneers are usually created and applied in two appointments. First, you’ll go through an initial consultation. At this time, the dentist will examine your mouth to determine if the procedure is right for you.

If veneers are recommended, about 0.5mm of enamel will be removed from your teeth to make room for the veneers to be applied. Molds and x-rays will be taken of your mouth and sent to the veneer manufacturer. The right shade will also be picked for the veneers so that they suit your teeth well. After 2-4 weeks, you’ll come back to Smiles for Life Family Dentistry for the application.

The veneer application process is quite simple. They will be placed temporarily on your teeth to ensure a perfect fit, and they’ll be adjusted and trimmed as necessary. Let your dentist know if you feel any discomfort at this point so that all adjustments can be made. Then, your teeth will be cleaned, polished, and etched to provide a stronghold for the dental bonding material.

Dental cement will be applied to your tooth, and then the veneer will be placed and bonded using a specialized UV light. The color of the veneer can be adjusted with the help of the bonding cement. After the excess dental cement is removed, the process is complete. You can walk out of our office with a brand new smile!

Who is a Good Candidate for Dental Veneers?

You may be a good candidate for dental veneers if you meet these criteria:

•You are an adult and your jaw is fully grown.
•You have stained teeth.
•You have gaps between your teeth.
•You have uneven or crooked teeth.
•You have chipped or broken teeth.
•Your teeth have become short due to being worn down.
•Your teeth are irregularly shaped.

Veneers will not be recommended if you have dental cavities that need to be fixed first or have any other oral problems that need attention. The dentist will guide you on all your options. If you grind your teeth while you sleep the dentist might recommend that you wear a night guard to protect the veneers from getting damaged.

Caring for Your Veneers

Porcelain veneers are extremely durable and they don’t stain easily. However, you still need to care for them like you would your own teeth. Beverages like tea, coffee, cola and wine can stain teeth so you might have to moderate your intake to keep your smile dazzling. Smoking too stains teeth and could dull the look of your veneers.

Although very strong, veneers can crack or chip under extreme pressure. Avoid biting on hard objects or ice to ensure that the veneers don’t get damaged. Other than that, regular brushing and flossing of your teeth will be enough to maintain your new smile.

Your veneers might feel a little odd at first, but you will get used to them soon and enjoy your bright new smile.
